Hampered PdO Redox Dynamics by Water Suppresses Lean Methane Oxidation over Realistic Palladium Catalysts

چکیده

By use of operando spectroscopies under cycling reaction conditions, water is shown to hamper the redox dynamics realistic palladium oxide nanoparticles dispersed onto alumina and hydrophobic zeolite supports thereby lowering activity for total oxidation methane. Water adsorption forms hydroxyl ad-species that block methane oxygen dissociation seem prevent lattice take part in oxidation. The main catalytic action thus proposed shift from Mars-van Krevelen mechanism dry conditions a slower route relies on Langmuir-Hinshelwood type steps wet conditions. This key finding has clear implications catalyst design low-temperature gas combustion emission control.

Isotopic Studies of Methane Oxidation Pathways on PdO Catalysts

Mechanistic details of CH4 oxidation were examined on PdO/ ZrO2 catalysts using isotopic tracer methods and measurements of kinetic isotope effects. Normal kinetic isotope effects were observed using CH4/O2 and CD4/O2 reactant mixtures. The (kH/kD) ratio was between 2.6 and 2.5, and it decreased slightly as the reaction temperature increased from 527 to 586 K. These kinetic isotope effects refl...

Catalytic Partial Oxidation of Methane over Fe2(MoO4)3 Catalysts

The study of new energy carriers for sustainable energy conversion processes is a hot research area. Among the potential energy carriers one finds biogas, containing a large fraction of methane, which attracts high interests worldwide. However, to be more useful, e.g., concerning storage and transportation, conversion of gaseous methane fuel into liquid fuel like methanol is desired. The conven...

Insight into the structure of supported palladium catalysts during the total oxidation of methane.

The combination of in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and on-line catalytic data provided insight into the structure-performance relationship of a flame-made Pd/ZrO(2) catalyst during the total oxidation of methane: upon heating, a sudden reduction accompanied by sintering of the Pd-particles, leads to a significantly lower catalytic activity and a hysteresis during coolin...

Toluene oxidation by non-thermal plasma combined with palladium catalysts

The oxidation of toluene in air was investigated using a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) combined with a Pd/Al2O3 catalyst. When using only plasma, rather low selectivity toward CO2 was obtained: 32-35%. By filling the DBD reactor with Pd/Al2O3 catalyst the CO2 selectivity was significantly enhanced (80-90%), however, a large amount of toluene was desorbed from the catalyst when the discharg...

Investigation of methane oxidation by palladium-based catalyst via ReaxFF Molecular Dynamics simulation

Catalytic oxidations of methane over palladium-based nanoparticles, with and without oxygen coating, are investigated using ReaxFF Molecular Dynamics simulations. The simulation results show the complete dynamic process of the above catalytic reactions at the atomic level and help to reveal the underlying mechanisms both qualitatively and quantitatively. It is found that oxygen molecules are si...
